Guides for shops and cafés that sell on delivery apps

These guides are for independent cafés, coffee shops, takeaways, convenience stores and off-licences that run their till on Square and also sell through Deliveroo, Uber Eats or Just Eat. Each one answers a question owners actually search for: how to change a price in each platform’s portal, what the platforms really charge, whether you’re allowed to charge more on the app, and how to reprice when your own costs move.

Fees, platform rules and inflation figures come from the platforms’ own pages and official statistics, with the date we checked them. Where something is our reading rather than a published fact, the guide says so. Nothing here is legal or tax advice, and your own partner agreement always wins.

Start here: it depends what you sell

The pricing advice is different for food-service businesses and for shops, because Deliveroo treats them differently. Pick the box that fits you, then read the section that matches your question.

Café, coffee shop or takeawayDeliveroo's Value Programme ranks restaurants on the markup across their top 20 sellers. Keep those under 10% to stay in the Good tier, price the rest of the menu by margin, and keep every price in step with your till.

Convenience store, off-licence or groceryShops are outside the Value Programme today. Price each line by margin so commission never takes a line below cost, and keep app prices in step with your till.

Free calculators

If you’d rather work it out for one item, the calculators use the same maths as the guides and run entirely in your browser. The first three are for delivery-app pricing; the last two are general margin tools for any item. Nothing you type is sent or saved.

How to use these guides

  1. Changing prices this week? Start with the sync guide for the platform you use, then check the result with the margin calculator.
  2. Thinking of charging more on the app? Read the Deliveroo pricing-policy guide first. It covers what the terms say, how the Value Programme ranks your markup, and the maths that keeps your margin.
  3. Costs going up? The inflation and energy guides give the current UK figures, and the active-pricing guide turns them into a repricing routine.
